How it is played
The dealer
deals out 2 cards to each player and 2 cards to himself. The first of the
two dealer cards is face down (so you can not see the card value) the second
card is face up (so you can see the card value). All player cards are dealt
face up.
Getting BlackJack
(either the dealer or the player)
If the player
has "BlackJack" (A Ace and another card valued at 10) the player has won
unless the dealer has blackjack as well. I won't list the payout here since
it varies from Casino to Casino but generally you earn 50% more than the
usual 2-1.
(Example on
a 5 dollar bet you would get your 5 dollars back plus an additional $7.50)
If the dealers
2nd card (served face up) is an Ace, some casinos will offer you either
a surrender option or insurance.
Surrender means
you automatically lose half of your bet (instead of all) if it turns out
the dealer has BlackJack or not.
Insurance is
another option. You pay a portion of your bet to the dealer and then if
the dealer does have blackjack you do not lose your entire bet. If the
dealer does not have blackjack.... you still lose your insurance money.
If the dealer
has black jack and you do not... you lose that hand. If both the player
(you) and the dealer have blackjack it is usually a "Push" (a push means
nobody wins, however.... some casinos have a rule that the dealer wins
on the push outcome)
